Chelsea 1 Vs 1 FC Schalke 04

Cesc Fabregas scored his first Chelsea goal but was unable to help Jose Mourinho's side to victory in their Champions League group-stage opener as they were held by Schalke.

The Spain midfielder, 27, who joined from Barcelona in the summer, swept in the opener from Eden Hazard's pass.

Missed chances frustrate Mourinho
Didier Drogba shot wide when through before striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar drove in an equaliser after a counter.

Chelsea's Loic Remy had a shot cleared off the line as Schalke held on.
It was a deserved point for the German side, after an impressive defensive display as Chelsea pushed for a winner in the closing stages.

Azpilicueta signs new five-year contract with Chelsea

The 25-year-old has made nearly 100 appearances for the club since his arrival from Marseille in August 2012 and has cemented his place at left-back despite Filipe Luis' signing

Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea.

The 25-year-old joined from Marseille in August 2012 and has made 95 appearances for Chelsea.

Azpilicueta, who is naturally a right-sided defender, was able to secure a regular role at left-back ahead of Ashley Cole last season and has kept his place despite Filipe Luis’ arrival from Atletico Madrid earlier this summer.

Torres : Mourinho taught me so much at Chelsea

The Spaniard scored just 12 goals in 44 games under the Special One last season but is adamant the two men enjoyed a productive professional relationship

Fernando Torres insists he learned a lot from Jose Mourinho in his final season at Chelsea.

Torres ended a disappointing three-year stay at Stamford Bridge last month by agreeing to join AC Milan on loan for the final two years of his contract, where he will replace the departed Mario Balotelli.

Mourinho frequently criticised Torres and fellow strikers Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba last season and the lack of a reliable goalscorer was widely perceived to be the main reason why Chelsea fell short in the Premier League title race.
